UN Human Rights Council adopted “Prevention of Genocide” resolution initiated by Armenia

YEREVAN, ARMENPRESS: UN Human Rights Council on March 22 unanimously adopted the resolution on the “Prevention of Genocide” initiated by Armenia. As reports Armenpress, this was informed by Armenian Foreign Ministry on its official Facebook page.

Armenia presented with such initiation in 2005. Armenian extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador to Switzerland Zohrap Mnatsakanyan (incumbent Deputy Minister) noted back in 2005 that the resolution was aimed at uniting the efforts of international community for the development and strengthening of genocide prevention mechanism. The resolution stressed the principals of convention on genocide adopted in 1948, mainly, about the need to preach and teach taking criminal responsibility for the crime.

The goal of the resolution is the prevention of the phenomenon of the genocide as the core lever for the strengthening of regional and international peace and relations between states. Presenting the resolution Armenia is reaffirming its moral stance in the fight against the phenomenon of genocide.
